‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2022’

Central Women’s University Sociology and Gender Club observed the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2022’ through a program on Thursday, November 17, 2022. In the program held at the university auditorium Ms. Sheepa Hafiza, Equality and Human Rights Defender and Social Analyst was present as guest speaker. Along with a power point presentation, Ms. Sheepa Hafiza discussed among other topics the various types, causes and consequences of violence against women and the possible measures to prevent and end all forms of violence. In her speech, she also emphasized on the issues of diversity and intersectionality.
Mr. Elias Ahmed, Registrar, CWU mentioned the relevance, importance and significance of celebrating the day in his welcome address.
Dr. Perween Hasan, Vice Chancellor, CWU, in her speech, put particular emphasis on the issue of domestic violence against women and the prevention of all kinds of violence against women. In addition, she discussed the goal and purpose of the ongoing research project on Birangana Fighters jointly being implemented by Central Women’s University and Naripokkho and the miseries of the life of many of the Birangana Fighters.
Screening of a documentary on Birangana Fighters made and produced by Naripokkho took place at the program. Besides, two of the CWU students shared their experiences of working with the above mentioned ongoing research project on Birangana Fighters. A solo song performance by student was included in the program.
Dr. Perween Hasan presented a crest to the guest speaker Ms. Sheepa Hafiza.
At the end of the program Dr. Fazila Banu Lily, Chairperson, Department of Sociology and Gender Studies thanked the speakers, participants and audience of the program. Among others chairpersons, faculty members and students of different departments of the university were present at the program.
