Central Women’s University Launches Microcredential Courses to Strengthen Students’ Career-Ready Skills

Central Women’s University (CWU) hosted a Microcredential Course Launching Event today, introducing a new initiative designed to complement students' academic learning with practical and industry-relevant skills. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the GIZ Bangladesh Digital Skills to Succeed (DS2S) Project. It aims to provide students with additional opportunities to develop practical competencies that can enhance their employability and prepare them for the evolving demands of the workplace.
The event was attended by the university leadership, distinguished guests, speakers, faculty members, representatives of GIZ Bangladesh, students, and other members of the university community. The programme began with an introductory session and a welcome address by the university’s focal person, who extended greetings to all guests and participants and highlighted the significance of the initiative for the university and its students.
The event featured a promotional video highlighting the objectives and vision of the Microcredential initiative. Two distinguished speakers—Ms. Mahmuda Islam, CEO of Sysnova Information Systems Limited, and Ms. Neelima Yasmeen, Deputy Director, Programme, Plan International Bangladesh—addressed the gathering. Their participation brought valuable perspectives from the industry and development sectors and reinforced the importance of preparing young graduates with skills that respond to contemporary workplace requirements.
Kazi Zeeshan R. Hasan, Director of Kazi Farms Limited, attended as the Special Guest and also delivered a speech. His participation highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration between higher education institutions and industry in preparing students for professional life.
The event was graced by Mr. Kazi Zahedul Hasan, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Central Women’s University, as the Chief Guest. His presence reflected the university’s commitment to initiatives that expand opportunities for students’ academic, professional, and personal development.
A question-and-answer session provided participants with an opportunity to engage with the speakers and discuss skills development, employability, and professional preparation.
The programme also featured a speech by a hackathon participant, offering a student perspective on practical learning and experiential activities. A crest-giving ceremony was subsequently held to recognize the hackathon participants for their contribution. Crests were also presented to the distinguished speakers in appreciation of their presence and valuable contribution to the event.
The programme concluded with remarks by the Vice Chancellor of Central Women’s University, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and photo session.
Central Women’s University believes that combining academic degrees with practical and industry-relevant skills can play a vital role in preparing students for sustainable career opportunities and future leadership. The launch of the Microcredential Courses therefore marks an important step toward building stronger bridges between higher education, skills development, and the needs of the modern workforce.
